Psalm 134/66:8

“Behold, bless the Lord, all you servants of the Lord, who stand by night in the house of the Lord!”
~Psalm 134:1

When I was on the Nightwatch (12am-6am), this Psalm applied quite literally.  Hence the web address...  Now that I am a part of the Evening Section (6pm-12am), I suppose it still applies, but not as dramatically.  For me this now speaks of my role in a more figurative sense, as in that I am “standing by night” as I wait for that Day to approach.  Some verses to explain what I mean:

  • Hebrews 10:25-Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the day approaching.”
  • 1 Thessalonians 5:4-8- “But you, brothers, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief. 5You are all sons of the light and sons of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness. 6So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be alert and self-controlled. 7For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night. 8But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet.”
  • Revelation 22:3-5- “No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him. 4They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. 5There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever.”

“Praise our God, O peoples, let the sound of His praise be heard!”
~Psalm 134:1

Ah, now here is the more literal application!  This is my high and humble calling as a “sound producer” at IHOP.  I am the human amplifier behind the soundboard.  I quite literally make His praises heard!  I am learning so much about the true nature of worship and prophecy (not to mention humility and service!) through this position.  I know these invaluable lessons will continue to be appliciable for the rest of my life and in whatever ministry I may find myself in the future.  Right now I am still mulling over them and “hiding these things in my heart.”  When they have better ripened, I may expound on these insights.
